I read somewhere that now is the final day of the 5,125 year Mayan long-count calendar. Just like our calendars that restart on January 1st that we have today, the long-count calendar restarts to when the Mayans started writing it. So we've experienced something that won't happen for another 5,125 years. Cool.
Plus, I hope this day marks the beginning of a new era of thinking. People need to stop being so ridiculous and come to their senses about how much idiocracy goes on these days. I hope logic finally comes to the minds of our generation.
I don't think I could've said it better myself. Too long have we as a species lived in the darkness that we created. Too long have we been ignorant to what we do to this planet and eachother.
I have not heard the part about the calendar reseting. I have always heard that it stopped on this day because this was the limits of their sight.
Each cycle ended with a revalation of some kind. I always thought that this cycle would end with a discovery of sorts. In some way, this is true. Just a few days ago, a group of Astronomers found what could an Earth-like planet. I say "could be" because this planet orbits it's host star in what is called the habitable zone.
Our planet orbits the Sun at a safe enough distance from it that we escape most of the Sun's damaging radiation. Yet, close enough to recieve the proper amount of heat and light.
THe other planets in our system are either too close, thus getting blasted by the Sun's radiation, or too far away, thus not recieving enough heat and light. So, we are in the Goldielocks Zone. Not too hot. Not too cold. Just right.
This newly discovered planet lies in the Goldielocks Zone around it's host star. Could this be the discovery that triggers the new cycle? The cycle the Mayans could not see? Only time will tell.
